  • Welcome
  • The ARTCC

Thank you for visiting the IVAO Kansas website! Feel free to look around and learn more about the Kansas ARTCC. I encourage you to contact me with any questions you may have after exploring the information you will find here.

Welcome aboard!

The Kansas City ARTCC (Air Route Traffic Control Center) is located in the heartland of the USA.  ZKC ARTCC covers the airspace above parts of Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Missouri and Illinois. With a width of 680nm and a height of 260nm, ZKC ARTCC is one of the biggest Control Centers in our nation.

Wichita Mid-Continent Airport (KICT), Tulsa Intl. Airport (KTUL), Lambert - St. Louis Intl. Airport (KSTL) and Kansas City Intl. Airport (KMCI) are the most important airports in our airspace. These airports offer you a big variety of domestic and international flights with many different carriers.

You will enjoy 3 different types of climate in Kansas City ARTCC : semiarid steppe climate, humid continental climate and humid Subtropical climate. This means that you can experience very hot summers and very cold winters!  If this isn't challenging enough,  tornadoes are more common in the ZKC airspace than in any other place on the world!

Kansas City ARTCC has 34 different ATC sectors which are separated by a High (15) and a Low sector (19).  The airspace has also 4 TRACONs (Terminal Radar Approach Control Facilities) : St. Louis (T75), Tulsa (TUL), Kansas City (KC), Wichita (ICT). More about that in the controllers section.
